The US Department of Labor has announced the availability of nearly $12.7 million in Susan Harwood Training Grants, funding safety and health training and education for workers and employers across high-risk industries.
Administered by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the grants fund instructor-led training aimed at helping small businesses and workers in industries with high rates of injury, illness and fatality identify and prevent workplace hazards. Two separate funding opportunities are open: Targeted Topic Training grants and Training and Educational Materials Development grants.
The announcement continues a long-running federal program that has funded worker safety training organisations for over four decades. Grant applications must be submitted electronically via Grants.gov by 11:59pm ET on 31 July 2026.
While the grants apply only within the United States, the program is a useful international benchmark for how safety regulators fund frontline training — an approach increasingly mirrored by state-based initiatives in Australia, including SafeWork NSW’s own free workshop programs.
